The company was founded in 1966 as “Latoaria Mecânica da Relva” and started its activity in a small facility with around 500 m2.

In 1978 moved to the actual site and in 1981 the company really starts to expand, with the acquisition of the general-line packaging market and production assets from another company.

In the following year purchases its first printing line, as well as other additional equipment. Besides the printing division, Neorelva also creates a pre-press division, having then integrated all the required services for the manufacturing of metal packaging – pre-press, printing, components manufacturing, assembly of the can and distribution of the finished goods.

The company kept investing in its modernisation, in the increase of its production capacity and introducing innovations in the market in such a way that, in 1988, it was the first Portuguese company to have approved packaging for the transport of dangerous products.

The entry of Portugal into the European Union made Neorelva rethink its concept of domestic market. Nowadays, more than 50% of its turnover is made outside of Portugal, as a result of the growth strategy followed and of the notoriety obtained meanwhile.

Quality has always been considered a priority for the company. As a consequence of this effort, the Quality Management System was ISO 9002 certified in 1995 and ISO 9001:2000 in 2003.

The company was exclusively dedicated to metal packaging until 2004, when it acquired the total capital of VDS Plásticos. Founded in 1986, VDS was already by acquisition time the Portuguese market leader in plastic packaging for paints, adhesives and sealants. Neorelva is then also able to offer its customers plastic packaging and assumes, in the Iberian Peninsula, an important role as a packaging supplier for the paints, varnishes and adhesives sectors.

The concern with the information systems technology avant-garde culminated in the implementation of the SAP system, which from 2007 has been used in the management of all business processes of the company.

2007 was also the year of consolidation of the Iberian market presence with the acquisition of the market of packaging in tin-plate to another company, and with the foundation of Neorelva Packaging Spain.

In 2008, Neorelva extends its range of products to Blow moulding and the Injection of plastic packaging in Polyethylene (PE), with the acquisition of assets and market of plastic packaging from a Spanish company.
To cope with this new stage of growth, the company acquired a new industrial unit, which installed the second unit of plastic packaging aimed at printing of plastic packaging.
